Printers and setup

Will it see my printer?

Your 3D prints can log their own filament usage. The watcher is a small helper you run on a box that stays on at home: a Raspberry Pi, a mini PC, a NAS. It reads your printers over your own network and logs each finished print, so filament comes off the right spool with no typing.

It only reads, never controls a printer, and it only connects outward, to Spoolroom. Nothing on your network is opened to the internet.

It's optional. Without one you can log a print by hand, or drop in the sliced file and Spoolroom reads the grams from it.

Confirmed on real printers

Run end to end on a real printer.

Snapmaker U1 and other Klipper printers with Moonraker

Confirmed

Confirmed on the Snapmaker U1. Other Klipper printers with Moonraker (Voron, Klipperized Enders) connect the same way and should work, but none is confirmed yet.

What to switch on

  1. Nothing to switch on: Moonraker is already listening on the printer.
  2. Setup looks for it on your network, or you type its IP.

What gets logged

Finished prints with grams per tool, read from the sliced file (Orca-family slicers), plus the slicer thumbnail and the timelapse where the firmware records one (Snapmaker U1). It can also read the filament loaded in a Creality CFS box, a Happy Hare MMU or an AFC unit such as a Box Turtle (all three experimental).

Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2

Confirmed

What to switch on

  1. On the printer screen: Settings → LAN Only. Turn LAN Only on and note the access code shown there. Setup asks for it.
  2. The printer allows only a few connected apps at once (2–4, depending on firmware). Close ElegooSlicer and the phone app while the watcher connects, or it will be turned away.

Heads-up

LAN Only stops the ELEGOO Matrix phone app; the two can't be used at once. A printer bound to Matrix can't report to the watcher on stock firmware.

What gets logged

Finished prints with the grams from the printer's own job record and the color of the active tray (a multi-color print's grams are split evenly across its colors), the slicer thumbnail, and the timelapse.

Experimental, ready for testers

Built from each printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one. If you have one, you can be the first.

Creality K1 / K1C / K1 Max with root access

Experimental

The 2025 editions (K1C 2025, K1 Max 2025) can't be rooted. Use the stock-firmware entry below for those.

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. On the printer screen: Settings → Root account information. Read the disclaimer, tick the box, wait 30 seconds and press OK. It's an official option, but Creality warns a rooted printer may lose its warranty.
  2. Rooting alone doesn't start Moonraker. Install it with Creality's Mainsail or Fluidd package (K1_Series_Annex on Creality's GitHub) or the Creality Helper Script.
  3. Add it as a Klipper/Moonraker printer: port 4409 with Mainsail (e.g. 192.168.1.60:4409), port 4408 with Fluidd.

Heads-up

A factory reset turns root off again, and Moonraker has to be reinstalled after it.

What gets logged

Finished prints with grams per tool, the same as any Klipper printer.

Anycubic Kobra S1 / S1 Max / Kobra 3

Experimental

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. On the printer screen: Settings → Network → turn LAN Mode on.
  2. No access code and no firmware mods. Setup only needs the printer's IP; the serial number (on its About screen) is optional.

Heads-up

The printer runs in either cloud mode or LAN Mode, not both. In LAN Mode it is not on Anycubic's cloud, so Anycubic's cloud app can't reach it. The watcher can't read a printer left in cloud mode.

What gets logged

Finished prints, with grams estimated from the length of filament the printer reports, split evenly across the loaded ACE Pro slots. The printer keeps no print history, so a print is logged when the watcher sees it finish.

Bambu Lab X1 / P1 / A1 / H2D and newer (P2S, H2S, H2C, X2D)

Experimental

Bambu's authorization firmware still lets local tools read the printer's status reports; only control needs Developer Mode, and the watcher never controls.

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. Note the printer's serial number and LAN access code, both on its screen: Settings → LAN Only (X1 / X2D / H2 / P2S), Settings → WLAN (P1P / P1S), or Settings → LAN Only Mode on the third settings page (A1 / A1 mini). You only read the code there; leave LAN Only off.
  2. No Developer Mode. It stays connected to Bambu's cloud and the Handy app.

What gets logged

Finished prints. Turn on file downloads during setup and the watcher also reads each job file from the printer for grams per AMS tray, the plate thumbnail and the timelapse; without them, prints are logged without grams per spool.

Creality K1 / K2 (with CFS) / Hi / Ender-3 V3 on stock firmware

Experimental

A rooted K1, or a K2 whose Moonraker is reachable, is better added as a Klipper/Moonraker printer: it reports grams per tool there.

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. Nothing to switch on: no root and no password. Setup only needs the printer's IP.

What gets logged

Finished prints with the slicer's gram estimate, per CFS slot where it can tell. The printer keeps no print history, so a print is logged when the watcher sees it finish.

Prusa MK4 / MK4S, MK3.9 / MK3.5, MINI, XL, CORE One / CORE One L, and MK3S+ with PrusaLink on a Raspberry Pi

Experimental

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. Turn PrusaLink on and note its password: Settings → Network → PrusaLink on the printer's screen. Older firmware shows an API key there instead, which works too.
  2. MK3S+: PrusaLink 0.7.2 or newer on a Raspberry Pi. A Pi set up by hand (not Prusa's image) listens on port 8080, so use IP:8080.

What gets logged

Finished prints with the slicer's gram estimate. On printers with PrusaLink built in, it is read from the .bgcode job file, so a plain .gcode file logs without grams.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon (the first one, not the 2)

Experimental

Elegoo's resin printers (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter) aren't supported yet.

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. Nothing to switch on and no access code. Setup only needs the printer's IP.
  2. It allows only a few connected apps at once, so close others if it won't connect.

What gets logged

Finished prints with the slicer's gram estimate, as one total rather than per tool.

FlashForge Adventurer 5M / 5M Pro / AD5X / Creator 5, and Adventurer 3 / 4

Experimental

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. On the printer screen: Settings → Network (About or Device Info on some firmware). Note the Serial Number and the Check Code (also called Verify Code or Printer ID).
  2. An Adventurer 3 or 4 needs no check code.

Heads-up

To read an Adventurer 3 or 4, the watcher briefly takes its one control session about once a minute. If FlashPrint says the printer is busy while you send a job, send it again.

What gets logged

Adventurer 5M / 5M Pro / AD5X / Creator 5: finished prints with the slicer's gram estimate and the thumbnail. Adventurer 3 / 4: status and finished prints only, without grams.

Any printer run by OctoPrint 1.9 or newer (including the 2.0 release candidates)

Experimental

Built from the printer's published protocol, not yet run on a real one.

What to switch on

  1. Setup needs OctoPrint's address. The OctoPi image serves it on port 80; a bare install is usually on port 5000.
  2. Setup asks OctoPrint for an app key: click Allow in OctoPrint's web page when it asks. You need to be logged in there.

What gets logged

Finished prints with grams per tool, worked out from the filament length OctoPrint reports, or taken from the file itself when the slicer wrote them there. A print started from the printer's SD card gets the length estimate only.

Other printers aren't supported yet. Tell us which one you'd like next.

Setup happens once you're signed in: Settings → Connections → Connect a Watcher gives you a one-line command to paste on that box, and a short wizard finds your printers and asks for anything listed above.
