Data sources and licenses

Spoolroom's filament catalog is what lets a spool match a known product as you add it, with its material, density, spool weight and temperatures filled in. It is built from open data that other people collect and share. A copy is made ahead of time and ships with the app, so using the catalog sends nothing to these projects.

The filament catalog

SpoolmanDB, by Donkie and its contributors, is the main source: brands, materials, colors, diameters, densities, spool weights and temperatures. MIT license, reproduced below.
The Open Filament Database, by the Open Filament Collective and its contributors, adds products the main source does not list. MIT license, reproduced below.
filamentcolors.xyz (© Joe Kaufeld) measures HueForge transmission distance (TD) from printed samples. Where it has measured a product the catalog already lists, that value is added to the product; it adds no products of its own. Its swatch data has no published license, and the project asks for credit when it is used.
A small number of products are typed in by hand from the manufacturer's or retailer's own product page.

A spec in the catalog is a starting point, not a guarantee: what you type or measure for your own spool always wins.

Brand logos and printer images

Full-color brand logos come from the Open Filament Database. Monochrome brand icons come from Simple Icons (CC0). A few printer models are shown with the manufacturer's own product image. Every logo, product name, product image and trademark belongs to its owner. They are shown only to identify who made a spool or a printer, and showing them implies no affiliation with, endorsement by or sponsorship from that company. A manufacturer that would like its logo or image removed can write to hello@spoolroom.app.

Typeface

Text is set in Geist and Geist Mono by Vercel, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, served from this site rather than a font service.
