Canceling & refunds
Leaving Spoolroom
Last updated 2026-10-11
The short version: cancel in two clicks from inside the app, keep what you paid for until the period ends, and take all of your data with you whenever you want. Paid time is not refunded, which is why the Free plan is the trial — you never have to buy a month to try one.
How to cancel
Settings → Plan → Cancel subscription. That button asks you to confirm once, tells you the date your plan ends, and cancels it. It is deliberately the same number of clicks it took to subscribe. Changed your mind before that date? Keep my plan, on the same card, undoes it.
There is no retention queue, no “are you sure” maze, no phone number and no form, and nothing to email anyone about. The button does it. If the button itself is broken, tell us at hello@spoolroom.app and we will fix the button.
What happens next
Canceling stops all further charges. There is no bill after you cancel, not even for an upgrade or extra storage added during the current period: those are charged when you make them. You keep your paid plan for the rest of the period you have already paid for. After that the workshop moves to the Free limits.
Nothing is deleted when you cancel. Every spool, print, photo and note stays. You can still sign in, still read everything, and still export all of it. New items follow the Free limits, which is the only thing that changes. A billing screen that goes blank when billing lapses is the screen you need most at exactly the moment it disappears, so this one does not.
Refunds
Paid time is not refunded. Subscriptions bill in advance and you keep the plan for every day of the period you paid for, so canceling stops the next payment rather than reaching back for the last one. There is no discretionary refund. The one exception is ours to trigger, not yours: if we ever close Spoolroom, paid time left over when it shuts down is refunded pro rata (terms, section 9).
Cancel any time. Access carries on to the end of the period you have already paid for — monthly today, and annually too wherever that's offered — and then nothing renews. You are never carried into another one.
The Free plan is the trial. It has no countdown and no expiry date: try everything that matters on it for as long as you like, and pay only when you want more room. That is the other side of not refunding paid time — you never have to buy a month to find out whether Spoolroom suits you.
None of this touches your data. Canceling deletes nothing, and the export stays available on every plan, including after you leave.
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page. Consumer law there gives a 14-day right to cancel a purchase made at a distance, which you may have agreed to give up at checkout in return for the service starting straight away. A right the law gives you survives everything written here: email us at hello@spoolroom.app and we will honor it.
Who you pay on the website
A plan bought on the website is sold through Link, the merchant-of-record service Stripe runs (Stripe Managed Payments). Link is the seller of record for the purchase, so your card statement shows LINK.COM* SPOOLROOM, and your receipts, invoices and any refund notice are emailed to you by Link. Prices are shown before tax; sales tax is added at checkout based on your billing address, and a refund includes the tax you paid.
You can take a payment or refund question to Link's support at support.link.com as well as to us. Link handles payment support for these purchases and, in some cases, may grant a refund on its own under its own rules; that does not change our own policy above.
Bought in the iPhone or Android app
A plan bought inside the Spoolroom app is billed by Apple or Google, not by us. Cancel it in your App Store subscriptions (iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions) or in the Google Play app (your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). As on the web, you keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds for in-app purchases are decided by the store under its own policy: ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through the Play Store. We can't issue them for you. Deleting your Spoolroom account does not cancel an App Store subscription — Apple only lets you do that yourself — so cancel it there first.
Top-ups and extra storage
AI top-ups are one-off and the credits never expire. They do not reset at the end of the month and they do not lapse if you cancel, so an unused top-up is not something you lose by waiting. Like paid time, a top-up is not refunded. Each one is its own checkout, which shows the price, plus any sales tax, before you pay.
Extra storage is part of your subscription, not a separate purchase: it renews and cancels with the plan. Adding a block, like upgrading your plan, takes effect at once and is charged at once, prorated for the rest of the current billing period, plus any sales tax; if the payment does not go through, nothing is added. Removing a block, like moving to a cheaper plan, takes effect when your current billing period ends: you keep what you paid for until then, and your next bill is simply lower. Nothing is refunded or credited, because nothing paid for is taken away early. Removing storage never deletes a photo. If your photos already need the space, the app declines the removal and tells you how much to free first, rather than accepting it and failing your next upload.
Price changes
If we raise a price, you keep yours. A new price applies to new subscriptions. If we ever needed to move an existing subscriber to a new price, we would tell you directly and in advance, and you would be able to cancel before it took effect rather than after.
Taking your data with you
A complete JSON export is available on every plan, at any time, including after canceling. It is in Settings, it is not gated on a subscription, and it is yours to press — we do not run exports on request, because you do not need us to. Deleting your account is separate: it cancels any subscription at once (the rest of the period is not refunded), closes the workshop, and permanently deletes it thirty days later. You can have it restored by writing to us before then, but not after — so export first.
The full terms are in the terms of service.
